Landmannalaugar

Iceland has many areas where it receives enough moisture that in summer a short, green, mossy collection of plants covers the landscape, but it takes a while to grow and often it's missing on some steeper hillsides and rocky outcrops. Well, that's the feel of the bottom four fifths of this image taken from a high vantage point looking down and out. In the foreground, occupying the left two thirds of the frame is a large, conical hill with three foot paths climbing it from different angles. Near the bottom right corner of the frame a dirt road enters and leads the eye past the right side of the conical hill to a flat area behind it and on back in the image where one finds gnarled looking storm clouds scraping across distant mountains.
