Coastal Forest Neptune State Park

An early morning sun creates light beams as it passes through the forest canopy into the thin fog hanging around the straight, denuded trunks of this pine forest. The view is toward the sun and the beams radiate a full three hundred and sixty degrees around the sun. Several beams make it to the forest floor where they lighten patches of short green vegetation. Many of the trunks, which long ago lost their needles, still have short, dead, stubby branches attached. These create a spiky pattern and give the appearance of protecting their tree's trunk, making the forest seem a bit hostile.
