Arches Milky Way

In this night panorama, the Milky Way is almost perpendicular in the sky and framed between two foreground buttes. Several more buttes are also framed and in the background. Because of their distance in the scene these buttes are much smaller and shorter and are positioned right below the galactic core. The foreground shows several car sized boulders spread out in a wide, dry creek bed. What make this image particularly beautiful is that a dim moon has risen, out of view to the left, casting interesting side lighting on the buttes and bluing and lightening the sky just enough to contrast nicely with the warm tones of the desert landscape.
