POST PROCESSING WORKSHOP
Photoshop and Photomatix
Colorado Springs, Colorado
Instructor: Andy Cook
With the advent of digital photography a requirement for post processing was also reborn. What is done with a camera on location amounts to about half of the process of creating a great image. The other half of creating a great image is done in a digital darkroom (on a computer).
Over the years we have found some very talented photographers attending our workshops, but often they lacked knowledge of how to post process images to create truly remarkable photographs. That is why we are now offering two 5 day Post Processing Workshops for small groups.
Standard Post Processing WorkshopAndy will aid participants using Adobe Photoshop and Photomatix to develop a post processing workflow. This workshop has a daily lecture component where Andy will demonstrate a technique once, then slowly demonstrates the technique again while participants use the same image(s) and follow along. Afterwards participants practice the technique on their own to reinforce it. Many post processing techniques are covered each day. Homework, if a participant is up to it, is to apply the day's lessons to a few of their images brought from home. The lectures of this workshop cover using Adobe Bridge, Adobe Bridge Photo Downloader, Adobe Camera Raw, Adobe Photoshop and Photomatix. Participants need to bring a laptop, Photoshop, Photomatix (optional) and have their monitors calibrated.
Post Processing Workshop II
For some photographers, even those who are comfortable with Photoshop, it is hard to know where to take an image with post processing, what should the image look like when it is finished? The goal of this workshop is to help participants answer this question. To enroll in this workshop a participant must have first attended our standard post processing workshop or through a discussion with Andy been approved for this workshop. This is to ensure every participant is at the proper level to get the most from their time at this workshop. Andy will spend a portion of each day demonstrating techniques that impact the colors and contrast of an image (a refresh of some techniques learned in the standard post processing workshop). Participants will be provided sample images to follow along with and practice on. Also, each day Andy will individually guide participants as they process their own images. Participants should preselect, group together and bring 20 to 40 (separate compositions; a bracketed series equals one image) of their own images for processing. Additionally, before the workshop, participants should search the internet and magazines for images with the processed look they desire in their own images and bring these examples to show Andy, Participants need to bring a laptop, Photoshop, Photomatix (optional) and have their monitors calibrated.
The workshops starts on the 1st day at 9:00 AM
Location: 2518 Pine Bluff Road, Colorado Springs, CO 80909 (Andy's home)
We process every day from 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM. (Lunch: 12 - 12:30).
The workshop ends on the last day at 4:00 PM.
This almost new hotel is adjacent to a theater complex and a selection of dining options are in walking distance. If needed, I plan to provide an 8:30 AM pickup and 4:15 PM drop off each day to this hotel.
The Fine Print
We will provide lunch (sandwiches, soup, salad, chips, drinks...). Note from Kati: Dog allergy alert - We have 1 dog, inside pet. We will keep the hustle and bustle of home life to a minimum during the workshop, but undoubtedly the phone will ring and other distractions will happen from time to time. In the event Rocky Mountain Reflections Photography, Inc. (RMRPI) cancels a workshop due to unforeseen circumstances such as inability to obtain permits, instructor injury, death... Then, RMRPI will refund fees collected by RMRPI for the affected workshop. In the event of a natural disaster, government closure or other happening of this nature that causes a workshop to be canceled, RMRPI may be unable to refund workshop fees. If this happens then funds collected by RMRPI will be applied as credit toward a future workshop of the participant's choosing. RMRPI will not be held responsible for other expenses (airline tickets, hotel deposits, rental car...) that may be associated with any canceled workshop.
