Beginner Camera Class
Port Aransas, Texas
February 5th - 7th, 2021
Instructor: Andy Cook
This is a beginner camera class for those interested in landscape photography. It is geared to those who are just discovering the world of photography and those who have a basic understanding of photography but want to learn more. We will teach Metering, Exposure and CFDER (a field workflow) in a classroom setting on Friday night. During the rest of the class we'll help participants develop the field workflow at locations in and around Port Aransas. On Saturday afternoon there will be a presentation on composition and a critiquing session. If you have been taking photographs please consider bringing (prints or on your laptop) what you think is your best work for critiquing purposes. It will help us identify how to help you improve. The information will be covered in simple, easy to understand language without getting bogged down in hard to understand (dry) technical detail.
Bring: All camera equipment to class on Friday night including the camera's manual. We recommend using a polarizing filter in many situations, so consider bringing one along and learn how to use it. A lens range from 18 mm to 70 mm is recommended, but not necessary. We also recommend using a sturdy outdoor tripod that can adjust from the photographer's standing height (without cranking up a center post) to very close to the ground. This type of tripod does not have attachments from the legs to the center post; i.e. the legs can move independently. Also bring very warm cloths, rubber boots and a flashlight to the field portions of the workshop. We will be out in predawn darkness.
Note: If you are considering new camera equipment, it may be advisable to wait until after the class to make a purchase.
The Fine Print
Weather is not guaranteed! This is a highly, instructional workshop, we do not attempt to shoot all of the wonderful locations in Port Aransas; our primary concern while in the field is to teach participants a field workflow. Due to storms and rebuilding, composition opportunities around Port Aransas are constantly changing. Workshop fee does not include transportation, lodging or meals. This workshop does involve some walking along the beach, if there is a breeze, which there usually is, it will feel very chilly please dress warmly. We require a waiver (for injuries) be signed before going into the field. We will send the waiver upon registration please return it at the start of the workshop. In the event Rocky Mountain Reflections Photography, Inc. (RMRPI) cancels a workshop due to unforeseen circumstances such as inability to obtain permits, instructor injury, death… Then, RMRPI will refund fees collected by RMRPI for the affected workshop. In the event of a natural disaster, government closure or other happening of this nature that causes a workshop to be canceled, RMRPI may be unable to refund workshop fees. If this happens then funds collected by RMRPI will be applied as credit toward a future workshop of the participant’s choosing. RMRPI will not be held responsible for other expenses (airline tickets, hotel deposits, rental car…) that may be associated with any canceled workshop.
